There is a bit of both in this. Influencers at the FIA have been trying to slow down Mercedes as oppose to encourage open development for years. That is such a negative approach given that F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle of motorsport and innovation. They would be very very well aware that any changes that affect one design approach more than another would give a clear advantage to one side and thus should only be done if one approach is inherently dangerous. Rule changes are not supposed to be about giving one side a competitive advantage and should only ever be for the genuine good of the sport. Horner knows this: Wolfe know this: Stroll knows this: Brawn and the FIA know this. Go figure.

I can’t believe what I’m hearing. Every team except Strolls spoilt whinging team has gone to the trouble of designing their car themselves not cutting corners and copying the best car out there, now the rules changed a little and it has hurt his team he is crying it’s not right? Here’s a man that has used his money throughout his life to get what he wants and can’t handle not getting that here and actually having to work hard like all the other teams.

Wolff is too blind to see that had it been Russell instead of Bottas in that Mercedes, it wouldn't be starting so far back. Mercedes anyway spoiled Russell's victory chances last year with a bungled pit-stop so I would consider this as karma. Russell deserved that Mercedes seat this year and Bottas should have been back at Williams. But Wolff wanted to appease Hamilton. Mistakes happen to anyone. It's true that Russell caused extensive damage but that's because he was fast enough to overtake a championship winning team's car in a back-of-the-field racing car. So what should Russell do when he encounters a Mercedes - purposely let go of the accelerator to save the team from disgrace?

As the FIA put it, "racing incident no further action." Yes Russell went onto the grass, as a result of Bottas moving to defend. Could it have been done on a subsequent corner, who knows. What I don't agree with is this god complex Mercedes have, just cause your the best on the grid doesn't mean other drivers should respect your space...... your hear to RACE not play cricket

No one knows what kind of contracs Lewis and Valteri have. It could be that Bottas is just the spacemaker behind Hamilton. If Russel would sit in the Mercedes it would be to dangerous for Hamilton and it would end like in the seasons with Rossberg. I would go a bit further and say that Russel would devour Hamilton.

  21. Marek Lagger

Ah everybody mentions that he spun because of wet grass but thats simply the consequence not the root cause. He was already max reving when he came on wet tarmac with DRS and the report mentions it (not directly). I would say that he just misjudged the conditions and Valteri response and probably was really going for it even with full revs. Problem is that when your rear is unstable at that speed there are not many options, lifting the throttle is the safest so obviously to minimize spin you have to go straighter than anticipated -> touching grass. It was just a racing accident and a little rookie move.

GR's fault, no conspiracy and despite his beliefs that Russell sgould race differently against a Merc it vindicates his decision to stick with Bottas. Is Bottas as quick as Russell? Not even close, but he is a reliable steady hand who wont rock the boat and is a perfect #2 partner for Lewis. Merc need a steady ship, not two stars vying for number 1 status

Yes, the technology in Indy isn't as advanced as F1, but is that REALLY such a bad thing? With AT LEAST half a dozen possible winners lining up every week (last year, Indy had 14 races, 7 different winners,) and featuring street and road courses as well as ovals, Indy produces an amazing product. (F1 averages a total of just over 34 overtakes in an entire race, whereas the 2019 Indy 500 29 passes for the LEAD of the race, not even counting the rest of the field.) If I want the ultimate in technology I'll take Formu... Actually no, I'll take WEC... Show me an F1 car that can handle Sebring for 12 hours or Le Mans for 24... So yeah, F1 slots in a solid 4th place for racing, being WEC, IMSA and Indy.

  41. Fachuro

    7 uur geleden

I think the worst part isn't the crash and him trying to overtake Bottas but how he reacted and handled things afterwards - especially after last years crash with Grosjean you would think that just maybe his thoughts would be in other places after a massive crash when he gets out and sees Bottas havent moved from his car and smoke is coming off it, and that instead of walking over to shout at him and hit him in the head he maybe would've thought more about whether or not Bottas was okay and needed assistance. His comments afterwards and refusal to admit fault only further goes to show that he's hotheaded, immature and making poor decisions on the spot. I would imagine maybe that plays a bigger part in Totos decision tbh...

I think George Russell is massively overhyped. Mercedes will have the pick of the bunch next year and I don't see why George would be a shoe-in for a drive. And Bahrain last year said a lot more about the Mercedes car than it did about George. It just proves their car is the best by far.

Any performance issues are definitely not Vettel’s fault (so sayeth the Vittel fanboys). Being supposedly one of the best drivers in the world, means you are expected to be able to drive cars with stability problems at least as good as your peers. Something Vittel has never been able to prove. If Vittel gets a car that is stable and exactly suits his driving, his performance will vastly improve? Exactly the same would apply to every other driver…

Aston has a point as the rules are suppose to forth coming from the FIA and F1 but should have none or limited input from the teams. This is a basic political move to make sure that all future rules are being done based on what they are being suppose to be doing rather then having another team throwing toys out of the pram since they cannot keep up. The rules are to be created by FIA (Safety) and F1 (performance) and knowing without a doubt that Red Bull and Ferrari played a huge role in the current rule changes seems a bit against the sporting code; in which Racing Point was questioned on last season. Welcome to F1, where you can either win or lose a race without turning the wheel in anger. While it was intended to hurt Mecedes (which it has) it also had a bigger impact on Aston. Are they serious about legal action? Nope as it won't go any where but did it bring up the fact/structure of how the sporting body is suppose to work in open discussion? Yup, as here we are talking about the way the governing body is suppose to work.

To me it looked like Bottas' fault mainly. As soon as he saw Russel making the attempt, he changed his line to squeeze Russel. Not something you should be doing at those speeds, in those conditions, against a driver in DRS. Russel can take some blame too and probably should have abandoned the attempt as soon as it was clear that it was no longer safe. Both drivers were overly emotional based on their circumstances which impacted rational thinking.

He obviously doesn't like his teams cars not being in the dominant position they have enjoyed for too long. The arrogance of telling other drivers to let them have priority is BOLL UKS.
