There was a great story of Ilmor testing for a big Indy Car race with Mercedes waiting at the gate with a truck load of stickers. It was quick, so they handed Ilmor a wad of cash, proceeding to rebadge it just in time for the race which iirc they won.

Fun fact: in the 2000 season, all 11 teams had differently-badged engines, partly thanks to the Fondmetal/Playlife/Petronas deals. By 2014, there were only three different engine badges on the grid - Ferrari, Mercedes, and Renault. I really miss the engine diversity of 2000s F1.

What made some of those engine names more weird? The pronunciation used for some of them in this video. Petronas was perhaps the worst. I love the details added in through the research, but give the narrator a chance with names by researching their pronunciation and giving them at least a basic phonetic form to use as part of the script.
